We fundamentally differentiate between breast reconstruction with the patient's own tissue and with implants. The advantage of implants is that the result is immediately visible. The disadvantage lies in the material itself. Silicone can lead to a variety of subsequent damage such as capsular fibrosis, deformations, ruptures and breast implant illness. There are two options for reconstruction with the patient's own tissue: so-called flap grafts and autologous fat transplantation, also known as lipofilling.
At the Park-Klinik Birkenwerder, we carry out breast reconstruction in most cases using autologous fat transplantation using the BEAULI™ method.
Fat is sucked out from the stomach, for example, and used to form a new breast that looks beautiful and feels natural. This operation is uncomplicated and leaves no visible scars. A limitation of this method is that the fat cannot be injected in large quantities (approx. 250 ml per session) and the reconstruction must therefore be carried out gradually, on average in 3 - 6 sessions. The sessions are short, however, and can be carried out on an outpatient basis.
The clear advantage of this method is that we do not use foreign bodies and therefore do not have to worry about the associated complications. The method of fat extraction is the basis for the successful and long-term healing of the fatty tissue. Water jet-assisted liposuction (WAL) allows gentle suction and the extraction of viable fatty tissue, which is crucial for sustainable healing.
